• Supervise young children playing outdoors to prevent them from putting snails or slugs in their mouths.

• Control snail, slug and rat populations to fight the spread of the disease. Take precautions to control slugs, snails and rats around the home, workplaces and properties, especially if one maintains a home garden.

• Farmers as well as food handlers and processors — increase diligence in controlling slug and snails on the farm.
